Volcanalia

In the far end of a secluded valley, above Gambellara in the Veneto (yes it sounds like the beginning of a fairy tale), Rossella Mastrotto has a vineyard planted with Garganega grapes. She calls her property Volcanalia because of the volcanic soils and the ancient Roman origins of the place. In 2012 Rosanna realized that she wanted to change her life, which became the starting point for a two-year journey where she visited winemakers in many corners of the world. Once back in Italy, she revived the family's old vineyards where she began experimenting in 2014. Rosella focuses solely on Gargangea; the vineyard is arranged in terraces and embraced by a dense, protective forest. The slopes face south and are exposed to a constant but gentle wind, which aerates the grapes and creates excellent conditions for them to ripen in a pleasant environment. The wines, still wines and Pet Nat with and without skin contact, and a champagne-like sparkling wine are delicious.
