Cantine Guttarolo

Around the year 2000, Cristiano Guttarolo decides to realize his dream of producing wine and buys his grandfather's old farm on the Murge plateau, in the middle of Puglia. Of course, wine is grown here, but above all, it is the place where large parts of Italy's durum wheat are grown, thanks to the dry and warm climate. The small farm with 2 hectares of vineyards is located about 400 meters above sea level in Gioia del Colle. The area immediately fascinated Cristiano because it offers unique conditions: a constant wind, good altitude, and soils rich in limestone which, under the right conditions, produce elegant wines with that summery saltiness on the palate.

The vineyard that surrounds the estate is planted with grapes typical of the area (Primitivo, Susumaniello, and Negroamaro for the reds and Verdeca and Trebbiano for the whites) and has been expanded over the years from 2 to 6.5 hectares. The cultivation that takes place in accordance with biodynamic methods aims to respect the environment and nature, to give wines that retain their vitality and express the terroir. In the cellar, fermentation takes place spontaneously without temperature control, accompanied by long maceration on the skins. Cristiano likes to experiment and uses terracotta amphorae to produce some of his wines which gives an extra dimension to the end result. We love these wines and the feelings they bring.
